How Culture Influences Emotion

How much does culture affect emotion? Professor Jeanne Tsai explores how culture influences how people want to feel in their daily lives.

Jeanne Tsai, ’91, is an associate professor of psychology, director of Asian American studies and director of the Culture and Emotion Lab. Professor Tsai’s research focuses on how cultural ideas and practices shape feelings, identities, and mental health across the lifespan. At Stanford, she teaches courses on personality, culture and social relationships and culture and emotion. Her research has been funded by the National Institute of Mental Health and the National Science Foundation. In 2009, Professor Tsai received the Stanford Asian American Community Faculty Award and in 2006, the Dean’s Award for Distinguished Teaching.
